Gordon J.B. Shields, the son of James and Grace Shields, was born in
Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1916. A graduate of the High School of
Montreal, Shields was a well-known local athlete, playing baseball,
hockey and rugby.
He entered service with the Royal Canadian Air Force in February 1942,
receiving his navigator’s wings in May 1943.
Flight Sergeant Shields was killed in action when his plane was shot
down on April 10, 1944. He is buried at Haycombe Cemetery in Bath,
Somerset, England.
