Toshio Ohara was born on January 7, 1918 in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. He attended Ochi Chugakkou high school and played for Kure Kohei in the Industrial League before signing with Hankyu in 1937.

the 19-year-old catcher batted .133 in nine games during the spring season and hit .125 in 29 games in the fall. In 1938 he played 27 games in the spring and hit .143, then batted .257 with 12 RBIs during the fall campaign.

Ohara served in the military during the war and died from illness in China.
