Saburo Kato attended Gifu Shogyo High School where he was an
outstanding baseball player. He later played baseball at Meiji
University and, in 1940, he was selected to play for the Japanese team
in the East Asian Games commemorating the 2,600th anniversary of the
founding of the Empire of Japan.
On April 6, 1945 Saburo Kato died in battle while serving as a member of
the Kamikaze 1st Special Attack Corps.
