Yonekichi Naya was born on July 15, 1914 in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. He attended Naniwa Shogyo high school, where he played in four Koshien Tournaments and Hosei University before signing with Nankai for the Fall 1938 season.

The 24-year-old right-handed hitting outfielder played nine games and managed just two hits in 21 at-bats for a .095 average. Naya was drafted into military service after the season. He died in combat at Bataan in the Philippines, on April 3, 1944.
