Nobuo Kato was born on April 2, 1917 in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. He attended Chukyo Shogyo high school ans Senshu University before signing with the Osaka Tigers in 1936. Kato, a 5-foot-3 second baseman, played just 8 games over the spring and fall seasons his rookie year, and just 10 over the two halves of the 1937 season.

Kato later served in the military and died in combat.
